Metal Weight Calculation Formulas


This guide provides commonly used formulas for calculating the theoretical weight of different metal materials. The formulas apply to stainless steel, carbon steel, copper, brass, aluminum and various geometric types including pipes, tubes, plates, bars and profiles. Unless otherwise noted, length is measured in meters, area in square meters, and all other dimensions in millimeters.

Stainless Steel Square Tube Weight Calculation
[(Side Length × 4 ÷ 3.14) − Wall Thickness] × Wall Thickness × 0.0246615

Stainless Steel Rectangular Tube Weight Calculation
[(Length + Width) × 2 ÷ 3.14 − Wall Thickness] × Wall Thickness × 0.0246615

Stainless Steel Plate/Strip Weight Calculation

Note: In these formulas, the unit of length is meters, the unit of area is square meters, and all other units are in millimeters.
